In the story Huang Daxiong tells to Qin Wei, Chan is a boot maker who competes with the poet Chen for the love of the village beauty Ming. Eventually he steals Chen’s poetry and uses it as his own.

Thought to be the man who turned Lee Tai onto the road to darkness, Chang Xin plundered his childhood village and killed his parents. His fortress was later attacked by Lee Tai in adulthood.

The ultimate challenger to Huang Daxiong’s father, and the original owner of the golden staff that was later turned into Huang Daxiong’s (and other’s) bracelets. Chao Tsung and Huang Daxiong’s father battled in the mountains after the jealous Chin Liang set up the match.

In the story Huang Daxiong tells to Qin Wei, Chen is a boot maker who competes with the boot maker Chan for the love of the village beauty Ming. After his prized work is stole by Chan, he crafts an amateur boot for Ming.
